heNew Harvard UK Hot Plate Analgesia Meter is a sophisticatedtemperature control and timing system, and has been designed toperform rapid and precise screening of the narcotic type analgesicdrugs (Morphine, Codeine, etc.) according to the Eddy and Leimbackhot plate test. This method evaluates the reaction time of micewhen a heat stimulus is applied to the plantar surface. Thisreaction time increases when a central analgesic is administered tothe animal.
Utilizing a simple user interface the user can quickly and easilyset up the required hot plate temperature and a large easy to readLED display shows the current temperature.
The timer requires a single press of the Start / Stop Key to startand another press to stop, with reset automatically executed whentiming is initiated. This function is also duplicated by a remoteStart/Stop footswitch (supplied). The reaction time is againclearly displayed on a large LED display.
Using digital electronics, the hot plate temperature is constantlymonitored and regulated to ensure the actual temperature and thedesired temperature accurately match. The system also monitors theheating characteristics of the system and uses this data tominimize heating overshoot, providing faster temperaturestabilization.
